Stay Strong, Steady and Independent: Join Our Falls Prevention and Strength Classes at Kube Medical

Kube Medical | Alex Barrelet

Hi, I’m Alex Barrelet, Senior Physiotherapist at Kube Medical.

Over the years, I’ve met so many patients who’ve told me the same thing — “I just don’t feel as strong or steady as I used to.” It might start with small things: feeling wobbly on the stairs, finding it harder to get up from a chair, or avoiding uneven ground because your balance feels uncertain. These changes can creep up gradually — but the good news is, you can do something about it.

That’s why we’re introducing our new Falls Prevention and Strength Class here at Kube Medical Swindon. These small, supportive group sessions are designed to help you stay confident, mobile, and independent, while improving balance, strength and coordination — the foundations of healthy movement at any age.

💪 Why Staying Strong Matters

As we get older, our muscles — particularly around the hips and thighs — naturally weaken if we’re not using them enough. This can make standing, walking, or even climbing stairs more difficult. When that happens, the body starts to compensate, shifting weight in ways that can make us less stable and more prone to falls.

But here’s the positive part: it’s never too late to rebuild strength. Even gentle, well-structured exercises can help restore confidence, stability and freedom of movement. My goal in these classes is to help you feel stronger in your everyday life — whether that’s keeping up with the grandchildren, getting back to gardening, or simply moving around your home safely and comfortably.

🪑 What to Expect in the Class

Our Falls Prevention Classes are friendly, small-group sessions with just four to six participants, led by myself or one of our Physiotherapists or Sports Therapists.

Each class includes:

✅ Chair-based exercises for safe, accessible strengthening

✅ Balance and coordination drills to enhance stability and control

✅ Bone health and posture work to support mobility and confidence

Sessions are relaxed, encouraging and tailored to your level. We’ll work gradually, focusing on everyday movements that make a real difference — getting up from a chair, stepping off a curb, or walking up stairs with ease. Whether you are living a relatively sedentary lifestyle and want to increase your activity levels, or you are already active and want to maintain your strength and balance this class will be suitable for you. With the small class sizes we can offer high, middle and low level exercises for everyone to do in the session.

🌿 A Positive Approach to Ageing

This isn’t just about preventing falls — it’s about living well and staying independent. The reality is that maintaining your leg and core strength is one of the most effective ways to prevent falls and keep doing the things you love.

Kube Medical | Get Ski Ready
by Alex Barrelet 13 October 2025
As the days get shorter and the air turns crisp, many of us start dreaming about fresh powder, mountain air, and that first exhilarating run of the ski season. But before you dust off your boots, it’s worth thinking about one crucial thing: your body’s readiness. Whether you’re a seasoned skier eager to hit the slopes from day one, or an occasional skier looking to make the most of a long-awaited trip, a little “pre-hab” — preparing your body in advance — can make all the difference between an enjoyable week on the mountain and one cut short by fatigue or injury.

Weight-loss injections have become a hot topic. Three in particular—Wegovy (semaglutide), Ozempic (semaglutide for diabetes), and Mounjaro (tirzepatide)—are often discussed. Here’s how they compare, based on evidence and FAQs.

There’s no easy way to put it — the sudden closure of Private Midwives has left a real void, both professionally and personally, for many highly experienced tongue tie practitioners. It’s disrupted livelihoods, interrupted the continuity of care for families, and forced many to face a wave of uncertainty.

Kube Medical | Clinical Integrity
by Patrick Campbell 14 June 2025
Like many businesses in healthcare, we sometimes receive feedback that is difficult to read — not because it challenges us, but because it doesn’t reflect the care and intention with which our team works every day. Recently, a negative review was shared online that has been mentioned by both current and prospective patients. While we always value constructive feedback and use it to review our processes, I wanted to take a moment — from my perspective as a non-clinical Director — to clarify how we work, and the values that guide our decisions when it comes to patient care.
